Baptism in water illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection in the same way it illustrates your new life as a believer. 1 Corinthians 15:3 “Christ died for our sins. He was buried and He rose again.” Colossians 2:12 “When you were baptized you were buried with Christ and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 “When anyone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun.”

You should be baptized to follow the example set by Jesus, because Christ commands us to be baptized, and because it demonstrates you are a true believer. Mark 1:9 “And it came about in those days that Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized byJohn in the river.” Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” 1 John 2:3 “We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands.”

Jesus was baptized by immersion and the word “baptize” literally means “dip under water.” Baptism by immersion also symbolizes a burial and resurrection.

Because there should be a level of spiritual maturity and understanding before baptism, our practice is to have our children baptized at no younger than 10 years old. This will help ensure their baptism is a spiritual marker in their life that they will remember.
