Freedom in a Renewed Mind

Because He Lives, Resurrection life in real time, Not just someday

This Week’s Sermon

Come on in, church -- lean in close this morning. God's got a word for your mind and your heart today.

We celebrate what Jesus saved us from -- and we should. But here's the tension. You can be spiritually saved and still mentally stuck -- still thinking like the old you, still weighed down by things Jesus already defeated. The Bible says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Because He lives, that renewal is available right now.

Your mind is like a social media algorithm -- the more you click on fear, the more fear you get fed. The more you rehearse shame, the more shame shows up. Old thinking doesn't just sit quietly in your head -- it wreaks havoc on your heart, your attitude, your relationships. But you don't have to let those thoughts squat in your renewed mind. You are the guard -- and guards don't entertain intruders.

So here's how it works. Recognize the thought, reject the lie, replace it with truth. Reinforce it daily and rely on the Holy Spirit. This isn't a one-time altar moment -- it's a daily decision. You are not your worst moment, not your past, not your thought patterns. Because He lives, lay down what's buried and think like someone raised with Christ.

  • Romans 12:2 — Do not conform to the pattern of this world; be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

  • Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) — “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”: your life follows your internal narrative.

  • Isaiah 26:3 — Perfect peace for those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in the Lord.

  • 2 Corinthians 10:5 -- Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

  • Proverbs 4:23 -- Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it.

Key Takeaways

In this week’s message…

  • Recognize, reject, and replace -- don't let old thoughts squat in your mind.

  • Renewing your mind is a daily decision, not a one-time event.

  • Rely on the Holy Spirit -- He is your source of overcoming power.

Reflection

Here are the truths we carried home this week.

We are not people defined by our worst thoughts. We are the redeemed of God, given a new identity and a renewed mind through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The old patterns of thinking -- the fear, the shame, the anxiety -- they belong to the grave, not to us.

But renewal is not automatic. It requires daily intentionality -- recognizing the thoughts that aren't from God, rejecting the lies, and replacing them with truth. Like a guard protecting the perimeter, we stand watch over our hearts and refuse to let the enemy's whispers take root.

So carry this into your week: you are not your past, your failures, or your thought patterns. Because He lives, lay down what belongs to the grave and start thinking like someone raised with Christ.

A Prayer for This Week

Let Your risen life reshape my heart, my mind, and my steps today.

Lord, I confess that I've been letting old thoughts take up residence in my mind. I've been clicking on fear, rehearsing shame, and entertaining lies that You already buried. Today I evict every squatter. I lay down the old patterns of thinking and I receive Your renewed mind. Transform me by Your truth. Holy Spirit, be my guard and my strength -- I rely on You to break every stronghold. I choose to think like someone raised with Christ.

Amen.
