He Was There the Whole Time
Because He Lives, the Spirit breathes into the church.
This Week’s Sermon
This is one of those Sundays I carry with me long after we leave — I'm so glad you were here.
We were never meant to do this on our own. Jesus made it plain — it was for our good that He went away, because unless He left, the Advocate couldn't come. On the day of Pentecost, He came. Not as a distant force or a theological concept, but as a person — alive, active, and living inside every believer who calls on the name of Jesus.
Here's what I want you to understand about conviction: it isn't God pushing you away — it's God pulling you back. When you sense that discomfort after a moment of sin, that's not fury. That's the Spirit saying, "I love you too much to leave you here." And beyond conviction, He teaches and reminds you every single day — the nudge to forgive, to go apologize, to put the phone down, to call your mom. That's Him.
And then there's this: God the Spirit empowers us. Look at Peter — the same man who denied Christ became the preacher who moved thousands. What changed? Not education, not personality — power. Dunamis. And that power is available to every one of us. "Be being filled," Paul says — present tense, ongoing, continual. Yesterday's filling will not sustain today's battles. Open the temple. Yield your heart. Let Him fill you again.
Acts 2:1–4 — The Spirit falls at Pentecost; the church is born in power
John 16:7 — Jesus' departure sends the Advocate to live within us
John 14:26 — The Holy Spirit teaches us and reminds us of Christ's ways
Acts 1:8 — You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you
Ephesians 5:18 — Be filled — and keep being filled — with the Spirit

Reflection
Here are the truths we carried home this week.
God is not spooky. The Holy Spirit is not some foreign concept reserved for a certain kind of church. He is gentle, patient, and kind — and He has been living on the inside of you since the day you gave your life to Christ.
Can I ask you something? How long has it been since you really leaned into Him? "As desperate as you are, that's the level that God will meet you in." He is not waiting for you to get it all together. He is waiting for you to open the door.
Yesterday's filling won't sustain today's battles. That's not a warning — that's an invitation. Open the temple. Yield your heart. The Spirit of the Living God is not distant. He is right here, ready to fill every corner of who you are.
A Prayer for This Week
Lord, I don't want to settle for spiritual fumes when Your Spirit is ready to fill me completely. Forgive me for the seasons I've lived on what I received long ago. Today I open my heart — teach me, remind me, lead me. Shape my home and my daily choices by Your presence. Make me sensitive to Your voice and quick to respond. I want to be being filled — today and every day. Build something in us together that only You could build.
Amen.

What Do I Do With What I Learned?
Your Invitation for This Week:

Ask someone this week what the Holy Spirit is teaching them right now — and actually listen to their answer.
Spiritual:
Set aside time each day this week to ask out loud: "Holy Spirit, teach me. Remind me. Lead me."
Practical:
The next time you sense a Spirit-nudge — to apologize, to forgive, or to encourage — act on it immediately, before the moment passes.
Communal:
Take one step toward a group, a serve team, or a summer commitment — we rise together, not alone.
